Aquatic Life - a local and regional success story

In a small town, you may see wildlife, a body of water, a few small businesses and meet some friendly people. Jeff Simpson, Founder and CEO of Aquatic Life Ltd, is always on the lookout for new innovative ways to expand his business footprint and is constantly working hard to show that an idea can absolutely come to fruition, and living in a small town doesn’t hinder a chance at success.

Nestled alongside the Winnipeg River in Pinawa, MB, Aquatic Life Ltd is dedicated to developing and designing remote real time water quality monitoring systems which specialize in drinking water, surface water, ground water, industrial water, and waste water.

Aquatic Life’s monitoring system in action

Aquatic Life has quickly become a local and regional success story, and even more so as the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) came to research our waterways in collaboration with Aquatic Life Ltd. Using the Aquatest, researchers from the IISD went on the waterways to continue with their research, despite COVID-19. IISD would like to make their monitoring more adaptive, so to accomplish that, they are adopting new technology practices to ensure that they can continue to collect information within the remote waterways, despite the challenges that are already an existing factor. No matter what challenges they face, they still need to know what is happening in the water to make informed decisions, and Aquatic Life plays a huge factor in their research.

As the team from IISD-ELA (Experimental Lakes Area) arrived in Pinawa, Steven Simpson was able to show them one of Aquatic Life’s new installations on the Winnipeg River. This helped visualize what IISD-ELA’s sensor would look like in action. Once the team installed the monitoring system, Aquatic Life also had access to the database.

This is a major accomplishment for Aquatic Life. Innovate Eastman is certainly proud to have Aquatic Life to be part of the program and walk through the growth pathway with our members together. A milestone like this sets the stage for our entrepreneurs, that Manitoba entrepreneurs can expand and scale their businesses on a global scale.
